Dust explosion venting system - ANTIDET RELIEF


After some specific level of pressure inside the the protected device is reached, areas on the shell of the devices open and release the overpressure outside. In the case of explosion the pressure wave, flame, combusted and not combusted dust are disgorged outside. That means the the construction and the shell of the protected vessel is stressed by much smaller pressure compared with unprotected vessel. If the explosion venting is designed correctly, the reduced pressure is lower than the pressure resistivity of the vessel so the explosion pressure is not causing any major damages to the device.

Dust explosion venting is usually realized by membranes (also known as bursting disc, rupture discs, explosion or bursting panels, etc.) of round and rectangular shape made by various materials.

This kind of protection is mainly used for separated, outdoor placed devices of big volumes, such as silos, filters, various hoppers and other vessels and for the devices of big volumes which can be placed close to the external wall of the building: silos, filters, dryers - especially milk dryers, drying towers, etc.

Appliaction of dust explosion venting protection system always require following these principles:
  • venting of the explosion can be realized only if safety zone can be set. In this zone no persons are admitted to enter, there must be no area with the risk of explosion in this safety zone and there must not be any obstacles obstructing the venting. Also the flame and pressure errucated outside the membranes should not cause any harm to the buildings or machines (glass windows, flammable liquids tanks, wooden palletes storages, etc...)
  • using explosion venting system alone means that the explosion is running without any interference - it means the flame will spread everywhere the unburnt dust is present, causing secondary explosions. It means that the explosion venting must be always combined with protection system for explosion isolation.
